Uses the official 2026 brackets (tax year 2024 income). Nothing you type leaves your phone. Social Security’s letter is the official amount.
If Social Security sent an IRMAA letter, compare it to the table below using your 2024 MAGI. If a life-changing event cut your income, file Form SSA-44 with proof — you do not need a formal appeal for that. If the MAGI number itself is wrong, correct it with the IRS first, then ask Social Security to update.

Part B column is the total monthly premium. Part D column is the extra amount added to your plan’s premium.
| Individual MAGI | Joint MAGI | Part B total / mo | Part D extra / mo |
|---|---|---|---|
| $109,000 or less | $218,000 or less | $202.90 | $0.00 |
| Above $109,000 up to $137,000 | Above $218,000 up to $274,000 | $284.10 | +$14.50 |
| Above $137,000 up to $171,000 | Above $274,000 up to $342,000 | $405.80 | +$37.50 |
| Above $171,000 up to $205,000 | Above $342,000 up to $410,000 | $527.50 | +$60.40 |
| Above $205,000 and less than $500,000 | Above $410,000 and less than $750,000 | $649.20 | +$83.30 |
| $500,000 or more | $750,000 or more | $689.90 | +$91.00 |

If you were married, lived with your spouse at any time during the tax year, and filed separately, CMS uses a shorter table:
| MAGI | Part B total / mo | Part D extra / mo |
|---|---|---|
| $109,000 or less | $202.90 | $0.00 |
| Above $109,000 and less than $391,000 | $649.20 | +$83.30 |
| $391,000 or more | $689.90 | +$91.00 |

You can ask Social Security for a new IRMAA decision if a life-changing event reduced your income, including: marriage, divorce, death of a spouse; you or your spouse stopped work or cut hours; loss of income-producing property from a disaster or event beyond your control; scheduled end or reorganization of an employer’s pension; or a settlement from an employer’s closure, bankruptcy, or reorganization (SSA).
Use Form SSA-44 with documents that prove the event and the lower income. That is a new decision request, not the same as a formal appeal. If you disagree with the MAGI figure from the IRS, correct the return with the IRS first.

Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount: an extra amount higher-income people pay for Medicare Part B and Part D, based on MAGI from a prior tax year (SSA/CMS).
For 2026, MAGI above $109,000 if you file as an individual (most non-joint statuses) or above $218,000 if married filing jointly, using your 2024 tax return (CMS/SSA).
Correct: $202.90 a month. The highest IRMAA Part B total is $689.90 a month (CMS, Nov. 14, 2025).
Often yes, if stopping work (or another listed life-changing event) cut your income. File Form SSA-44 with proof; you do not need a formal appeal for that request (SSA).
You still pay the Part B premium (with any IRMAA). Part D IRMAA applies if your Advantage plan includes drug coverage or you have a separate Part D plan (SSA/CMS).
