Stock market & bank holidays 2026, 2027, 2028Updated

Direct answer: The stock market's next holidays are Thanksgiving (Thu, Nov. 26, 2026, with a 1 p.m. ET early close the next day) and Christmas (Fri, Dec. 25; early close Dec. 24). Stocks trade on Veterans Day (Nov. 11), but the Federal Reserve and the bond market close, so ACH transfers wait. NYSE and Nasdaq follow the same schedule.

By the numbers: 10 NYSE market holidays in 2026 and 10 in 2027; 2 days a year (Columbus Day, Veterans Day) when banks close but stocks trade. Source: NYSE Holidays & Trading Hours; Federal Reserve Board K.8 (read Oct. 18, 2026)

Quick Q&A
Is the stock market open on Veterans Day?

Yes. NYSE and Nasdaq are open their regular 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET hours on Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026). The Federal Reserve is closed, so ACH transfers and direct deposits don't process that day, many bank branches close, and SIFMA recommends the bond market close too.

Is the stock market open the day after Thanksgiving?

Yes, but only until 1:00 p.m. ET. NYSE closes early on Friday, Nov. 27, 2026 and Friday, Nov. 26, 2027. It's fully closed on Thanksgiving Day itself (Nov. 26, 2026; Nov. 25, 2027). SIFMA recommends the bond market close at 2:00 p.m. ET on Nov. 27, 2026.

Is the stock market open on Christmas Eve 2026?

Yes, until 1:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2026, then closed Friday, Dec. 25. In 2027 Christmas falls on a Saturday, so NYSE closes on Friday, Dec. 24, 2027, while Federal Reserve Banks stay open that Friday.

What are the stock market holidays in 2027?

NYSE lists 10: New Year's Day (Jan. 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 18), Washington's Birthday (Feb. 15), Good Friday (March 26), Memorial Day (May 31), Juneteenth observed (Friday, June 18), Independence Day observed (Monday, July 5), Labor Day (Sept. 6), Thanksgiving (Nov. 25) and Christmas observed (Friday, Dec. 24). Early close: 1:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 26, 2027.

What are the bank holidays in 2027?

The Federal Reserve observes 11: Jan. 1, Jan. 18, Feb. 15, May 31, June 19, July 4 (closed Monday, July 5), Sept. 6, Oct. 11 (Columbus Day), Nov. 11, Nov. 25 and Dec. 25. When a holiday falls on a Saturday (June 19 and Dec. 25, 2027), Federal Reserve Banks are open the Friday before.

Is the stock market open on Good Friday?

No. NYSE and Nasdaq close on Good Friday (April 3, 2026; March 26, 2027; April 14, 2028), even though it isn't a federal holiday and the Federal Reserve is open. SIFMA recommended a 12:00 p.m. ET bond market close on Good Friday 2026.

Holiday dates from NYSE (2026-2028), the Federal Reserve's K.8 list (updated July 8, 2026) and FedACH schedule, SIFMA (2026) and OPM; checked Oct. 18, 2026.

Market holidays: the short answer

Next stock market holidays: Thanksgiving, Thu, Nov. 26, 2026 (closed) and Christmas, Fri, Dec. 25, 2026 (closed). NYSE and Nasdaq close early at 1:00 p.m. ET on Fri, Nov. 27 and Thu, Dec. 24. On Veterans Day (Wed., Nov. 11) stocks trade normally, but the Federal Reserve (so ACH and direct deposits) and the bond market are closed.

The math:

  • Regular stock market hours: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday (NYSE core session).
  • Banks close but stocks trade: Columbus Day and Veterans Day (Federal Reserve holidays the stock exchanges don't observe).
  • Stocks close but banks open: Good Friday, plus Fridays when a holiday falls on Saturday. Next ones: Fri, Mar. 26, 2027 (Good Friday), Fri, Jun. 18, 2027 (Juneteenth (observed)), Fri, Dec. 24, 2027 (Christmas Day (observed)), Fri, Apr. 14, 2028 (Good Friday).

Next steps

  1. Paying a bill or moving money near a holiday? Start a day early: ACH transfers and direct deposits don't process on Federal Reserve holidays or weekends.
  2. Trading on a half day? Orders for the regular session must be in before the 1:00 p.m. ET close; your broker's own cutoffs can be earlier.
  3. Need a branch? Your bank sets its own branch hours; many close on Fed holidays. Online and app access usually still works.
  4. Track the market on our markets page and 60-second daily briefing.

Direct deposit and ACH on bank holidays (FedACH 2026)

Paychecks, benefits and bank transfers that go by ACH run through the Federal Reserve's FedACH service, which pauses around each Fed holiday. If a payday lands on a bank holiday, the pay date depends on your employer or agency; check with them.

Bond market early closes (SIFMA, 2026)

SIFMA, the securities industry's trade association, recommends the U.S. bond market close early on these days. It has also posted 2027 recommendations; we list 2027 bond dates only after a clean read of SIFMA's page, so check SIFMA for 2027 for now.

How the holiday rules work

Sources: NYSE · Nasdaq · Federal Reserve K.8 · Federal Reserve Financial Services · OPM · SIFMA

How we built this: each date is read from the exchange, Federal Reserve, OPM or SIFMA page (saved with a checksum and checked in code: every date must appear on the source page, Nasdaq's 2026 list must match NYSE's, and the Fed's Saturday/Sunday rule is applied as the Fed states it). The date check runs in your browser with the same logic as our server-side test.

Dates and facts only, not trading advice. Exchanges can close on short notice; the exchange's own notice wins. Futures and crypto keep different hours; crypto trades every day.

ET on Nov. 27, 2026.
