Bank fee refund kit

Your fee refund letter, CFPB complaint text and a fee tracker. You send and file everything yourself; we never contact your bank. Everything you type stays in this browser.

Best first move

  1. Call your bank and ask for a courtesy refund. Be polite, give the date and amount, and ask: “Can you refund this fee?” Many banks will, but they don't have to.
  2. No? Ask in writing. Send a short letter or secure message with the fee, the date and why it should come back. Keep a copy.
  3. Still no, and you think a rule was broken? File a free complaint with the CFPB. The CFPB sends it to your bank and you can track the answer.

What's in the kit

  1. My refund letter and complaint. Fill in a few boxes and get a fee refund request to your bank and the text for a CFPB complaint, with the rule that fits your reason (for example, the debit card overdraft opt-in rule). Re: Fee refund request, account ending in [last 4 digits]
  2. My fee tracker. Each fee, what you asked for, and what came back, with totals for still to get back and refunded.

Sources

We never contact your bank, ask for a refund, or file a complaint for you, and nothing you type is sent to us. Rules can change and your account agreement may give you more; the official sources are the final word. General information, not legal advice. No bank pays to be on this page.

FAQ

Does VaultRubric contact my bank or file my complaint?

No. Pro fills in the letter or complaint text. You send or file it yourself, and nothing you type is sent to us.

What should my fee refund letter say?

The fee, the amount and date, your account's last 4 digits, why it should come back, and what you want: a credit to your account and a written answer.

Estimates, not financial advice. Taxes, insurance, PMI and fees vary by lender, county and city; confirm with your lender, dealer and state agency before acting.
